Indian Chai/Tea with Rosemary

“Chai or Tea” – who doesn’t want it at the wake of the day. Yes we Indian’s wake up to tea or coffee. We all are addicted to these hot beverages. I too am but I don’t drink as soon as I wake up, but after my breakfast I crave for a hot brewed tea/chai with aromatic tea masala and a zing of cardamom. Am not a coffee person. Am a truely dedicated tea person.

What is so special about this chai/tea is the addition of Rosemary herb. You must have added Rosemary to your potatoes, meat, chicken – but have you tried in your tea. It’s an aromatic tea to have. Rosemary has a lot of medicinal values and adding it to your tea is an extra bonus. Have you seen Rosemary??? If not this is the rosemary herb.

How did I know about this tea is, once when I had been to my friends place she served me this tea and I fell in love with this tea. Yes as VALENTINE’S DAY is round the corner make this tea and have a tea date with your partner. There is nothing comparable to a heartfelt chat while having tea. Think all will agree to that. This tea has nothing to do with valentine’s day but am posting this tea recipe for the love of tea I have within me and to the fellow tea lovers.

Note : Add only one strand of Rosemary to a cup of tea. If you cannot find fresh Rosemary then can use 1/2 tsp of dried rosemary instead.

Adjust the tea powder/dust measure according to your tea. Some tea needs to be added more and some a little. Use accordingly.

Adding cardamom gives a nice aroma too. I like it in my tea and it is an anti-depressant so add it and calm your mind. If you don’t have the cardamom powder then just add two crushed cardamom pods instead.

I add tea masala also to this tea, it makes it even more flavourful.

Adjust the water and milk proportion according to your taste.

I have used low fat milk you can use any milk.

I like to add jaggery for the healthier option. If you don’t like it then add sugar according to your taste.

    1. Rosemary herb is a western herb but has a nice aroma and is good in the tea. If you don’t get it then try with dried herb. Try once it’s a different tea not is nice and refreshing. Jaggery is just a healthy notch to my daily tea. I have been having tea with jaggery for almost two years now.

      1. That’s kind of you to ask, Meena, I have had a couple of weeks off and am only slightly back as I am struggling with my back and shoulders, which affects my ability to sit for long or to type. It is a longterm injury. I have, though, finally written a post in response to your nomination for the blogging award, scheduled in a few days, I’m so sorry it took me so long. I had to combine it with a nomination from someone else. I hope you are well 😊

  1. Meena since Rosemary is not native to India, we don’t find this kind of tea version around. Need to try this one. This version of tes also seems to have some medicinal benefits.

      1. we do get fresh zucchini, bell peppers etc but Rosemary and oregano? well only in pre-packed packs. All these are native to India and especially in Jaipur. They are not grown locally. very small market, you see 🙂
