Vegetarian Chicken Masala

Hi all, am sure all must be wondering where did I disappear all these days. The last two months had been a bit busy as we shifted back to KL, Malaysia from Nairobi, Kenya. As the winding up and packing of stuff, meeting with friends all took up my time before leaving Nairobi. Returning back to home country, finding schools for kids, refurbishing the house and all has become challenging to blog. Being an expat is all about changes and now we have come back to KL for good.

I am glad that my blog has again got a recognition in a website. Do have a look into it. https://easyrecipedepot.com/food-blogs-india/ Thankyou all for the support you have been providing all this while. This recognition has again made me blog today. Thanks to www.easyrecipedepot.com for including my blog in their list of 35 Indian blogs.

Today we going to see a unique recipe that is made with soy protein – called vegetarian chicken. This is mock meat and is an option for vegetarians to include more protein in their diet. My hubby is a vegetarian but he can eat all the mock meat varieties. You can buy these in grocery stores in Malaysia.

Do try to let me know if you liked it.

Take all the ingredients ready.
Defrost the vegeterian chicken for half an hour.
After half an hour just wash them to reduce the excess oil.
Drain them and set aside.
After sometime cut them into two or three pieces as shown.
Chop onion and tomato as shown.
Take Cumin.
And Fennel
Make it into a fine powder.
Add little tomatoes and grind them until you get a smooth paste.
Like this.
Take oil in a pan and temper fennel and urad dal.
Then add the chopped onions and dry red chili’s.
After the onions become translucent add the ginger garlic paste.
After the raw smell of the ginger garlic paste goes add the chopped tomatoes.
Add required amount of salt. Take care that the vegetarian chicken will have salt in it.
Add turmeric powder.
Add red chili powder.
Now add the garam masala and cook till the raw smell goes.
Add little water to make it a gravy.
Now add the cut vegetarian chicken pieces and mix.
Finally add the pepper powder just before switching off the stove.
Add the chopped coriander leaves before serving.
Vegetarian Chicken Masala is ready to be served with rice and any sambar or rice and rasam.

Note : Vegetarian Chicken is made of soya protein. All vegetarians can eat this.

Washing the pieces after defrosting is optional. It is to remove the excess oil in them.

Instead of grinding the cumin and fennel seeds add their powders.

I added chopped tomato to the powder as they didn’t get powdered. That’s why the paste. Otherwise can ignore the grinding part.

The vegetarian chicken is little bit sweet in taste so add chili powder accordinlgy.

Add green chilies instead of dry red chilies.

If you need a bit saucy rather than this dry version then add more onion and tomato and little more water.

Add little more salt than required for the onion and tomatoes as the vegetarian chicken has salt in it.

The Vegetarian Chicken Masala is ready to be served with any Rice with Sambar or Rice with Rasam. Try and let me know if you liked it.
